From January 1st of this year, Nigerian celebs came out fightin’. There have been mudslinging, name calling, lies, fights and even the division of Lagos into Mainland and Island militia. From Don Jazzy, Olamide, Davido, Dele Momodu, Cynthia Morgan, Tiwa Savage, Toyin Aimakhu and Wizkid, they have all screamed and shouted. What’s interesting though is that they all used the media and PR as publicity to promote their name, their brand, their latest song or project.
It would seem like Nigerians are yet to harness the power of positive PR, a positive light on their activities as a means of driving media attention and attaining column inches. Yes, gossip, sex and scandal sells like no man’s business, but surely, one wants to be known for more than that?
Must we attend every cat fight, respond to ever slur or put up 15 Instagram posts only when it comes to bad news? Is there nothing in the celeb world like ‘jump am pass‘? Is it all good in the name of media and PR?
Everyone has an opinion on whether or not Tiwa Savage should have released the video that she did yesterday evening and even on the content of it. Certainly it would seem that she has managed to sway a lot of sympathy away from Teebillz’s side and over to hers. See some of the comments below:

This must be fabulous news for her: there is no greater insult for a woman in the mind of a Nigerian than to be called an ashewo and a whore. You can be as great and as accomplished as you like, but the release of your body count can be your undoing. That or your marital status. If in doubt, ask Linda Ikeji.
Will this all result in more sales though? Will someone out there start to like Tiwa’s music more because her husband has a debt of N45m or is a cocaine user? Will pity transform into money in the bank? I suppose only time will tell.
